Sadie and Tansy
Here at blue barn farm I am concerned about the welfare of donkeys. So when I saw some in the paper for sale. I had to see them. The guy selling them said they were not tame and had not been handled at all.
When I arrived, I approached her in a gentle and un-threatening manner, within minutes she started to come to me, with my arm stretched she came and sniffed my hand, she then allowed me to touch her nose.
The owner was stunned that she had allowed me to touch her.
Then she continued to follow me around the paddock. I couldn’t bear to leave her there, as when I had to leave she once again came up to me and looked up at me with her big dark eyes, as if begging me to save her from this place.
Driving away I began to get upset. Seeing people treating donks in such a neglectful way.
I got straight on the phone to my friends Sarah Jane and Sam and had a sob.
I would like to send my thanks to Sarah Jane for her support and encouragement in continuing to nag the seller to accept my offer.
Also, thank you to my wonderful neighbour and friend Mary-anne for driving with her float to pick her up, and for her help in loading mummy and bub.
My advice in these situations is don’t give up nagging the owner.
As I come to think of it my kids use this technique on me!!
Sadie had never been wormed (she had a bloated tummy to prove it) or had her feet done, little Tansy had pixie shoes.
So, my wonderful farrier Peter has been to tend to their feet.
So it’s all sun shine and happiness for these two. In a couple of months they will look like different donkeys.
Tansy will be for sale when she is a bit older, to a loving home. congrats! to gerry and debbie on the purchase of tansy. i know you 2 will love her to bits!
*************************************** DONKEY RESCUES I will rescue any type of donkey no matter what condition and breeding.. A rescue is not sold for profit. The price just covers my costs. example what ever i had to pay to purchase him. vet, farrier, teeth care, vaccinations, micro chip {opitional} and if needing some basic training this is seen too also.,but this may need further work by new owners as some donkeys that are rescued may have not had any human contact or training. This is how the price of a rescue is costed. it is all done at minimum cost where possible, so that this donkey gets a 2nd chance at a happy loving life.
SURRENDER DONKEY A surrender is a situation where the owner hands over their donkey in to my care with no payment. This is done by the owners of their own free will. in cases where the owner has passed away and the immediate family wish to pass him on,or just a situation where the owners cant care for their donkey any more, as above i will take care of his health ,chips, vaccinations etc. if i cant house them, then i will sell him on to a new home at only the cost of treatments etc. The agreement will also cover that if the new owner too, in time cant house this surrendered donkey i will take him back and the donkey will again be put into a new home. once again this is not done for PROFIT.
All this is done out of my love for this lovely creature "THE DONKEY." . |
